This harp functions
as a double action pedal harp, but via electronics, not mechanical
action. Consequently, it weighs half as much, and costs half
as much, as a conventional pedal harp.
And
you never need to tune it!
The harp itself makes no sound.
Instead, sensors on each string capture the physical input of
your fingers as you play. This is translated into MIDI controlling
messages sent to your synthesizer. The movements of the pedals
are also monitored electronically, giving you full "virtual"
pedal harp functionality.
The sound you hear depends entirely
on the synthesizer you are using. An inexpensive General MIDI
synthesizer unit will give you a variety of useful sounds. Connecting
the harp to a computer can give you access to realistic sampled
sounds and the newest audio technology, to stretch your creative
imagination.
The possible applications are
unlimited, but even if you don't care to gecome a geek about
it, this instrument is very useful as a silent practice harp,
or as a tool for transcribing music via notation software (Finale,
Sibelius, etc.)
