The Brigid is
a small wire strung harp that can travel with you everywhere.
In its protective and durable Cronkhite case it will ride comfortably
on your back, and will fit in most airline overhead bins. This
is not the main reason to buy one of these harps, but it is a
good beginnning.
More significant
factors are the harp's charming sound and its very useful range,
wide enough to play all your tunes without compromise. The all
brass stringing descends a full octave below middle C, and the
top note is G, a three and a half octave range.
The solid willow
soundbox with mimimal glue lines acoustically simulates a carved
out box. The back is permanently closed to be trouble free (no
rattles or misfitting seams). Because the back is closed, you
will need to replace strings through the front soundholes, a
traditional procedure. Using Z toggles, this is not as problematic
as you might think. The troublefree concept goes even further
with a laminated one piece neck and pillar. This structure is
very sturdy and will not deform over time.
The Brigid, because
of its traditional design, is both a fun instrument to use for
recreation and a serious instrument to authentically recreate
the rich heritage of the Celtic world. It is sturdy enough to
take camping and elegant enough to take into the academic world.
The harp is 30
inches tall, 8-1/2 inches wide, and weighs 9 pounds. The case
is 31 x 18 x 9 inches and weighs 13 pounds with the harp inside.
The price of
$2,800 includes the custom
fitted Cronkhite case with backpack straps, a tuning wrench,
and a supply of extra wire for replacing strings. Shipping within
the continental US via Fedex Ground service is also included
in this price. World wide shipping can be arranged at reasonable
